Installing Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 on Windows 7

The moment I receive a question that says “Can my software X be installed on Windows 7”, I first head towards the Windows 7 Compatibility Center to find out.

Installing Visual Studio 2005 on Windows 7

Visual Studio 2005 is supported on Windows 7. To run Visual Studio 2005 on Windows 7, you will need to install the following in the order:

1. Visual Studio 2005

2. Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 and

3. Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista

After you have installed these updates, in order to launch Visual Studio 2005, Right-click the icon > "Run as Administrator”

Installing Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 7

Launch Visual Studio 2008 by right-clicking the icon > "Run as Administrator”.

Note: Visual Studio 2005 Express and Visual Studio 2008 Express editions are compatible with Windows 7 Home Edition and Windows 7 Professional Edition
